My name is Natalia Alas Duran (she/her) and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works with clients in Texas and Massachusetts. I completed my undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Professional Writing at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. I have a Masters in Social Work from Boston College School of Social Work, where I also obtained my certificate to specialize in working with Latinx populations.
For nearly the past decade, I've worked with diverse populations in medical settings and strive to offer holistic mental health care to clients and their family members. I have a passion for working with those from historically marginalized communities and those who have chronic illness, disabilities, and/or who are experiencing life transitions.
As someone who comes from a family and community of immigrants, I can empathize with how costly and inaccessible mental health care can be. And not only that, but I grew up receiving messages that therapy was something "only for crazy people" and not for us. Yet, we all have mental health and when we think about the power of healing in our communities, it often comes from sharing our burdens with one another. Healing can be hard to do alone. From a young age I aspired to be a therapist because I wanted to create spaces where people from my community would feel welcomed and not judged - where they can go to get the help they need. I feel that this hope is reflected in the work I do with my clients now. I strive to make efforts in both my professional and personal life to work with communities to find ways to decrease mental health stigma, to decolonize the way I practice therapy, and to think creatively about how to make therapy more accessible for everyone.
If you choose to work with me, you can expect a therapist who is warm, relational, and expressive. I will listen to you without judgment, hold space for both the "good" and the "bad" feelings, and gently challenge you to recognize both your strengths and what parts of you that may have been helpful for you to survive at one time in your life that may be able to take a break now. I have extensive experience in narrative therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, and I am receiving training in EMDR and brainspotting. I do not think there is a "one fits all" approach so I pull from different modalities to find what will work best for you. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process and so I welcome feedback and will work with you to figure out a plan to help you meet your therapeutic goals.
Currently Natalia sees OpenPath/Private Pay clients in Texas and Massachusetts. She is pending approval with BCBS, Cigna/Evernorth, and Optum.
